Working at the crossroads between craft and code, multimedia artist Segun Owolabi uses a self-built algorithm to generate paths for his threaded portraits – a meticulous visual language built from tension, repetition, patience and accumulation.
Each portrait explores a specific human quality that demonstrates the spirit of the Olympic Games: endurance, survival, self-knowledge, transformation and connection. Together they demonstrate that the spirit of the Olympic Games extends beyond victory itself. It lives within the human stories that make extraordinary achievement possible.
In this way, Threaded Momentum becomes more than a collection of portraits. It becomes a meditation on the forces that move people forward, both in sport and in life.
This work is part of the Olympic Heritage Artists in Residence programme, a joint initiative by 3-2-1 Qatar Olympic and Sports Museum and The Olympic Museum (Lausanne, Switzerland).
