The exhibition deconstructs cinema into its elemental languages: time, the sensorial, movement and stillness, sound, archives, and the ways in which space shapes narrative and gives form to cinematic realities.
In this triangulation between cinema, print, and spatial design, the tools of cinema are taken apart and encountered anew. Its materials—images, sounds, gestures, fragments, rhythms—are drawn out of their original contexts and placed in relation to one another.
Through this encounter, the artifice of cinema becomes perceptible: the process of filmmakers is foregrounded; the ways in which time is held, movement is composed, and sound is given shape. The exhibition becomes a space for these materials to linger, shift, and consider what cinema can hold, and what it can transmit.
It is here that the notion of affinity emerges: between filmmakers, those who have inspired them, and the communities that have supported them. The atlas maps this landscape and the Doha Film Institute’s impact over the past fifteen years.
