This is a domestic dwelling from the early 1950s, which belonged to the Al Zaman family. It is located in Old Al Ghanim, and provides an excellent example of decorated/decostyle Qatar houses, which expanded over time and sat at the edges of Doha at the time.
The house saw a proxy shopping location where women would buy directly from the family instead of heading to Souq Waqif for purchase of goods and textile. It also included a personalised make-shift cinema in the inner courtyard, which brought together neighbours and kids to come watch old movies. Once the family left the house, it received a popular Indian Restaurant in a section of the house and continued to be mostly residentially occupied by migrant workers. Today it stands free from all four sides and overlooks a large piazza as well as Grand Hamad Street.
