Behind the Scenes: Conserving Glass and Ceramics
27 September 2022
Step inside the world of objects conservation with this in-depth look at the restoration of a delicate 10th-century bottle rescued from a shipwreck.
Our team of curators, registrars, conservators, and experts in exhibitions and gallery installations ensure the highest standard of care for the objects in our collection or on temporary loan.
In this video, part of a six-part series, objects conservator Ioannis Spanos talks us through his work with MIA’s collection of Islamic pottery. The collection itself widely varies in origin, from the south of Spain to southeast Asia. As a result, Spanos works with a range of materials, including ceramics, stone, glass and metal. Watch as Spanos details his techniques conserving a 10th-century glass bottle, found in a shipwreck under the Java Sea.
