In partnership with the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MOECC), the National Museum of Qatar (NMoQ) invites researchers, conservationists, and practitioners to participate in the Regional Symposium for the Protection of Sea Turtles and the Understanding of Their Natural Habitats in the GCC.

Held alongside the exhibition Lehmesa: Return by Moonlight, the symposium aims to foster dialogue and collaboration on marine sustainability across the region, as part of The First GCC Sea Turtle Symposium: Management and Conservation initiative.

Call for Papers

We invite paper submissions on a wide range of topics related to sea turtle conservation, research, and management in the Gulf region, including but not limited to:

  • Marine research and Field studies: recent findings on sea turtle ecology, behaviour, and migration.
  • Habitat and Environmental studies: nesting sites, feeding grounds, and the impact of coastal development.
  • Threats and Mitigation: climate change, pollution, fisheries bycatch, and marine traffic.
  • Conservation Strategies: protection measures, restoration efforts, and policy implementation.
  • Community engagement and Education: awareness programmes, citizen science, and youth participation.
  • Technology and Innovation: use of tagging, satellite tracking, and digital monitoring tools.
  • Regional collaboration: cross-border conservation initiatives and partnerships among GCC countries.
  • Marine protected areas and Sustainable tourism: balancing biodiversity conservation with economic growth.

We also welcome pre-arranged panels dedicated to well-defined themes in marine biodiversity, coastal ecosystem management, and regional collaboration for sea turtle protection.

Submission Guidelines

Lectures

  • Submit a 150–250-word abstract outlining your research objectives, methodology, and key findings.
  • Each presentation will be 20 minutes maximum.

Panels

Submit a 300-word abstract including:

  • A brief introduction to the theme.
  • The proposed structure of the panel (number of speakers, session length, discussion time).
  • Information on the convenor (name, affiliation, and contact).
  • A provisional list of participants.

Formatting

  • Abstracts should be submitted in Times New Roman.,
  • Twelve-point font, and include the title, author(s), and institutional affiliation(s).
  • Conference language: Arabic and English.

Important Dates

  • The abstract submission deadline is 31 December 2025.
  • Notification of acceptance will be sent on 5 January 2026.
