Rhythms of the Reef is an interactive educational programme that explores the relationship between marine ecosystems and sound, and what turtles hear beneath the ocean.

Guided by Qatari musicians and marine specialists, participants create percussion instruments from natural and recycled materials and learn how ocean rhythms reflect ecological balance. The programme concludes with a group performance inspired by traditional Gulf pearl-diving rhythms, blending environmental awareness with musical heritage.

Programme Outline:

Introduction to Ocean Sounds: A scientific explanation by marine biology specialists on acoustic communication in coral reefs and the impact of noise pollution.
Cultural Music Segment: A performance by Qatari musicians of traditional sea songs (Nahma) with an explanation of their connection to pearl diving rhythms.
Instrument-Making Workshop: Using shells, pebbles, wood, and recycled plastic to create handmade percussion instruments.
Sound Experiments: Exploring tones and sounds that simulate the marine environment.
Final Group Performance: Composing a collective piece that expresses the harmony between humans and the sea.
Closing Discussion & Reflection: An open dialogue on ecological balance and the human role in preserving it
