Topic: Archiving Modernism in Qatar: Challenges, Opportunities, Collaboration Possibilities
This debate brings together Fatma Al Sehlawi and George Arbid to explore the future of modern architecture in Doha. Anchored in tangible examples—buildings, streets, and urban fabric—the conversation will highlight local efforts in documentation and research, while also situating Doha's case within broader regional and international practices. The dialogue will unfold along two central tracks:
- Archiving and Documentation: building inventories, collecting material, and strengthening architectural archives as resources for research and collaboration.
- Preservation and Promotion: recognising modern architecture as cultural heritage and advocating for its safeguarding, reinterpretation, and public engagement.
Together, the session aims to generate ideas and strategies for how Doha's modernist legacy can be both preserved and reimagined as part of the city's evolving identity.
