Whether fiction or documentary, the selected films delve into themes that reflect the richness and diversity of the Islamic world. Each screening is followed by an engaging discussion, allowing members to reflect on the artistic, cultural, and historical dimensions presented on screen. It’s a great way to expand your understanding and appreciation of Islamic heritage through the powerful medium of cinema.

The film presented this month is Destiny, directed by Youssef Chahine.

Le Destin by Youcef Chahine

Le Destin (1997) is a historical drama set in 12th-century Andalusia. The film centres on the philosopher Averroes (Ibn Rushd) and explores the struggle between reason, tolerance, and freedom of thought versus religious extremism and political repression. Through music, debate, and personal stories, Chahine highlights the enduring importance of intellectual openness and cultural coexistence.

The films must be watched from the comfort of your home. MIA Library does not currently offer screenings; however, as an alternative, we present scene screenings.
