Materials in Islamic Art

Past Exhibition

The Museum of Islamic Art (MIA) is home to one of the world’s greatest collections of Islamic Art. Explore how different items in the collection are made up of various kinds of material with this workshop.

Some of the masterpieces in the museum's collection are made up of various types of material, including metalwork, ceramics, jewellery, woodwork, textiles, coins and glass. Each of these materials have different properties or characteristics that can be observed.

Students will learn where each material came from and the processes used to create the beautiful masterpieces. In addition, they will have a chance to compare the art pieces at MIA with everyday objects they are familiar with.
