Lecture: International Day for Underwater Cultural Heritage

The Archaeology Department at Qatar Museums (QM), in collaboration with the UNESCO Regional Office in Doha, is pleased to announce an upcoming lecture titled Frameworks and Mechanisms of International Cooperation under the 2001 UNESCO Convention on the Protection of the Underwater Cultural Heritage to be presented by Dr. Ouafa Slimane, Expert Field Archaeologist.

This event marks the first celebration of 21 August 2025 as the International Day for Underwater Cultural Heritage.

The lecture will explore the frameworks and cooperation mechanisms established by the 2001 Convention, which, over the past two decades, have significantly contributed to advancing scientific research in the field of underwater cultural heritage, enriching knowledge, and facilitating the exchange of expertise and skills among professionals. It will also showcase inspiring case studies of international cooperation, demonstrating how the Convention continues to foster partnerships and support global efforts to safeguard underwater cultural heritage as part of our shared sustainable future.
