The Dam (2022), directed by Ali Cherri is a feature film set in Sudan near the massive hydroelectric Merowe Dam. Maher, a seasonal worker from Darfur, works in a traditional brickyard fed by the waters of the Nile. Every evening, he secretly wanders off into the desert to build a mysterious monument made of mud. As he constructs his mud tower, a revolution unfolds around him. Broadcasts and reports of protests against Omar Al-Bashir's dictatorship fill the air. As the Sudanese people rise up for their freedom, his creation gradually seems to come alive.
