Color shapes perception, evokes memory, and constructs emotion, often before narrative or dialogue takes hold; it is one of the most immediate aspects of how we experience images.

In this inaugural talk for The Set: Design For Screen public program, join colorist and educator Mahak Gupta to understand Color Grading and how this design discipline can add an emotional storytelling layer to film.

Mahak Gupta is a freelance senior colorist and educator based in Mumbai. Her projects include working on Mira Nair’s BBC series A Suitable Boy (2020) as an on-set colorist, Achal Mishra’s Gamak Ghar (2019), Shaunak Sen’s All That Breathes (2022) which won the Grand Jury Award at Sundance Film Festival, and was nominated for Best Documentary Feature at the Academy Awards , 2023. Mahak is the co-founder of The Colorists Workshop and teaches color grading at film schools across India. She was a part of the jury panel for the Filmlight Color Awards 2024.
