Baghdad: Eye’s Delight celebrates the most important and influential city ever to have existed in the Islamic world, revealing its outstanding heritage as the capital of the great Abbasid caliphs (750–1258 CE), as well as the dynamic period of prosperity and creative innovation known as its second ‘Golden Age’ in the mid-20th century. Through the pages, readers will take a tour across centuries, highlighting Baghdad's role as a city of power, scholarship, riches, art and music, ending with a look at its social fabric, cosmopolitan population, and many traditions, which have – despite war and destruction – enabled the city to thrive, time after time.

With essays by over 20 experts in the field and a selection of stunning images, including work by renowned photographer Latif Al Ani, the book depicts the vibrant history of one of the greatest cultural capitals of the Middle East. Baghdad: Eye’s Delight was published to accompany the exhibition launched at the Museum of Islamic Art, Doha, in October 2022.
