Mehdi Moutashar (b. 1943) is a contemporary Iraqi artist. His work is known for blending Islamic geometry, Arabic calligraphy, and Western minimalism. He studied at the Institute of Fine Arts in Baghdad before moving to France in the 1960s, where he continued his training at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris.
He taught for many years in France and has exhibited widely across Europe and the Arab world. In 2018, Moutashar was the co-winner of the prestigious Jameel Prize awarded by the Victoria and Albert Museum.
