National Museum of Qatar Internships

The National Museum of Qatar is dedicated to bringing to life the story of Qatar and its people. Designed to be vibrant and immersive, the museum is a space where diverse communities can come together and experience Qatar’s past, present and future.

Please note: The start dates of all internships below are flexible based on the availability of the candidate and the requirements of the department.

General Internship

Period of Internship: 6 months
Location: NMoQ, with some remote working

About This Internship

The intern will be involved with the team that is working towards developing programmes that deepen visitors’ understanding of Qatari heritage, while enhancing their experience of the museum and making Qatar’s story accessible to everyone.

Specialist in:
There are five different general internship programmes available. The intern should specialise in ONE of the below.

  • Graphic Design
  • Art History
  • Painting & Printmaking
  • Journalism & Communication
  • Biological Science

Qualification Required:
University/College Student with Bachelor’s Degree

Skills Required:

  • Graphic Design: Exceptional creativity and innovation
  • Art History: Interpret, assess and evaluate sources
  • Painting & Printmaking: Attention to detail, exceptional creativity and innovation
  • Journalism & Communication: Writing, reporting, editing, production and critical thinking
  • Biological Science: Foundation in biology, chemistry and physics

The intern will assist with:

  • Researching, developing and writing programme proposals
  • Gathering and preparing supplies for workshops
  • ​Running hands-on activities for families and youth
  • Organising drop-in activities in the gallery
  • Running live science demonstration workshops
  • Delivering art workshops for different audiences
  • Writing scripts for storytelling and living history programs

Museum Studies Internship

Period of Internship: 6 months
Location: NMoQ, with some remote working

About This Internship

The intern will have an opportunity to support museum guides with developing new concepts and layouts for both virtual and physical tours. These tours are centred around collections and exhibitions; the activities are aimed at different age groups in an informative, interactive, creative and relevant manner.

The intern will assist with:

  • ​Developing new concepts and improving the existing layouts for various museum-guided and virtual interactive tours
  • Researching international museum practices to get insights on new activities for further enriching both the educational programmes offered and expanding the collections
  • Translating content for projects related to new and existing programmes

Libraries and Information Sciences Internship

About This Internship

The intern will have the opportunity to understand the relationship between the library’s goals and community development, gain exposure to tasks in a museum environment and gain practical experience in the library system.

Specialist in:
Library and Information Sciences

Qualification Required:
University/College Student

Skills required:

  • English and Arabic Language skills
  • Classification skills

The intern will:

  • ​Obtain an understanding of the library's objectives and target audience
  • Gain practical skills using the library system, cataloguing, searching and circulation with development collection
  • Develop an understanding of audience needs analysis, programme planning, workshop coordination and school visits

About This Internship

The intern will have the chance to implement their knowledge towards enhancing students' learning. They will be introduced to the world of museum education before practising their skills in developing meaningful learning experiences for schools, with the aim of deepening students’ understanding of the history and culture of Qatar.

Specialist in:
History/Art History/Museum Studies/Education/or Museum Education

Qualification Required:
University/College Student with Bachelor’s Degree

Skills required:

  • Good communication skills (verbal & written)
  • Computer skills (Microsoft Office, Outlook)
  • Creative with developing a learning experience

The intern will:

  • ​Be introduced to the concept of museum education
  • Collaborate with museum educators in developing and delivering student programmes
  • Develop learning programmes for students to be utilised on- and off-site

About This Internship

Interns will have the chance to put their design skills to work in support of students' learning. They will assist in developing meaningful learning materials with the aim of deepening students’ understanding of the history and culture of Qatar.

Specialist in:
Fine Art/Graphic Design/Marketing

Qualification Required:
University/College Student with Bachelor’s Degree

Skills required:

  • Good communication skills (verbal and nonverbal)
  • Good computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Office)
  • Good knowledge of working with Adobe programs
  • Creative with developing learning materials and resources

The intern will:

  • ​Be introduced to the concept of museum education
  • Collaborate with the museum educators in developing and delivering students' programmes
  • Develop learning resources and materials for students to be utilised on and off-site
  • Develop visual materials for programme marketing
