National Museum of Qatar Internship 1: Learning and Outreach

Period of Internship: 3 months
Location: National Museum of Qatar

About This Internship

Interns will have the chance to implement their knowledge towards enhancing student learning. They will be introduced to the magical world of museum education through exploring best practices in learning materials and resources. Interns will be encouraged to design and develop educational resources for students with the aim of deepening students’ understanding of the history and culture of Qatar.

Specialist area: Fine Art, Graphic Design

Qualification Required: Bachelor’s Degree

Skills Required

  • Good communication skills (verbal and non-verbal communication)
  • Good computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Office)
  • Good knowledge of working with Adobe programs
  • Creative with developing learning materials and resources

The interns will be:

  • Introduced to the concept of museum education
  • Collaborating with museum educators in developing and delivering student programmes
  • Collaborating with museum art educators in developing and delivering educational programmes for school students
  • Developing learning resources and materials for students to be utilised on- and off-site
  • Developing visual materials for the programme’s marketing

National Museum of Qatar Internship 2: Learning and Outreach

Period of Internship: 3 months
Location: National Museum of Qatar

About This Internship

This internship offers the opportunity to apply principles and theory learned in the classroom in a professional work environment through supporting a museum guide in developing new concepts for various virtual and physical tours and daily tasks; to acquire and build on presentation, communication, research and translation skills which will further develop intern's professional capabilities; and to get a broader exposure to working environment and obtain a better insight into museum operations through an educational focus.

The intern will:

  • Develop new concepts and improve existing layouts for various museum guided tours as well as virtual interactive tours for differents types of audiences and age groups
  • Research international museum practices to get insight into new activities

National Museum of Qatar Internship 3: Visitor Services

Period of Internship: 3 months
Location: National Museum of Qatar

About This Internship

The Visitor Services team makes visitors feel immediately welcome upon entry to NMoQ and provides them with information about the collections, exhibitions, tours, and programmes of the National Museum. They conduct tours, serve as the front line of the museums and provide the visitors with a deeper understanding and appreciation of the artwork.

The internship is museum based and will involve direct visitor contact, focusing on family groups and supporting learning through play in interactive exhibition spaces within the galleries

The priority hours will be from 2 to 7pm on weekends, school holidays and public holidays, with additional hours on weekdays.

  • Be introduced to varied roles within NMOQ with a focus on family visitors
  • Plan an approach to engaging with family groups in the Family Exhibits
  • Implement the plan to engage with family groups
  • Develop strategies for promoting learning through play
  • Analyse and report on strategies and visitor feedback 

National Museum of Qatar Internship 4: Collections (Art Handling)

Period of Internship: 6 Months

Location: National Museum of Qatar

About this internship

The intern will learn about collections care and management and participate in the preparation of new exhibitions. S/he will attain general art handling skills and knowledge in preventive conservation as well as be trained to utilise museum software (KE-EMu) to document data. The internship programme can be tailored for the participants' background knowledge and skills, and a relevant supervisor will be assigned.

Specialist area: Art Conservation; Material Science in Conservation; Fine Art; Art History

The intern will:

  • Support new temporary exhibitions preparation and collection storage organisation, depending on background and level of skill
  • Perform varied tasks, from art handling to assisting conservation work

National Museum of Qatar Internship 5: Collections (Digital Assets)

Period of Internship: 6 Months

Location: National Museum of Qatar

About this internship

Working within the Digital Assets section of the Collections department, the intern will gain an understanding of how museums consider digital collections, and their documentation. S/he will gain experience working with OpenText media management and copyright and licensing agreements, and

an understanding of how to update existing metadata and add new metadata.

  • Get exposure to copyrights management
  • Have a dedicated mentor
  • Work with and organise digital assets in a Digital Asset Management (DAM) system
  • Work with spreadsheets to create manifest files for bulk uploading of digital assets
