Year of Culture Residency Programme in Indonesia
M7 x Year of Culture collaboration:
This collaborative residency allows Qatari product and fashion designers to discover specific traditions, materials, and know-how from local craft masters in Indonesia.
Each Qatari designer will be paired with an Indonesian designer, hoping to evoke idea exchanges, knowledge transmissions, and long-term collaborations. Each programme will have 1-2 pairs of designers.
This hybrid programme spans three months (two weeks on-site in Indonesia). It consists of various activities, ranging from group discussions, sharing sessions by experts, skill apprentices, designers’ studio visits, and the development of product prototypes.
Led by residency managers throughout the period of the project, their concerns lie in responsible production (sustainable materials and waste management), and designers will also be challenged to take these issues into account.
