Fire Station: Artist in Residence Internships

Fire Station: Artist in Residence is a contemporary art space committed to supporting artists through its residency programmes. It engages local communities in Qatar by providing opportunities and events, which include exhibitions and public programmes, such as artist talks, panel discussions, and community workshops.

Please note: The start dates of all internships below are flexible based on the availability of the candidate and the requirements of the department.

Fire Station: Artist in Residence Film/Art Internship

Period of Internship: 3 months
Location: Fire Station: Artist in Residence

About This Internship

The intern will get on-the-job exposure and gain practical experience at Fire Station: Artist in Residence.

Specialist area: Film/Art
Qualification Required: University/College Student with Bachelor’s Degree

Skills Required

  • Art

The intern will assist with:

  • ​Understanding the studio and darkroom
  • Managing the photo lab
  • Curating an art gallery
  • Scanning and archiving collected objects (photographs)
  • Curating an exhibition with the collection

About This Internship

The intern will gain practical experience while working in the gallery and on a range of multimedia activities to promote the venue and its artists.

  • Knowledge of Adobe programmes including:
    • Premiere
    • InDesign
    • Photoshop

The intern will assist with:

  • Editing videos
  • Taking photographs of AIR artists
  • Editing social media videos

About This Internship

During this six-month internship the successful applicant will gain practical experience while working across a wide range of gallery activities.

Specialist area: Art history/ Curatorial studies/ Art and Design
Qualification Required: University/College Student with Bachelor’s Degree

  • Research and content development
  • Creative writing
  • Computer skills

The intern will assist with:

  • Helping the curator in residence during studio visits with the artists
  • The preparation of the Artists in Residence alumni exhibition
  • Coordinating with alumni artists regarding proposals for alumni shows and updating the checklist
  • Contributing to the creation of a curatorial theme and sub-themes for the alumni exhibition
  • Developing ideas for public programs revolving around the alumni exhibition

About This Internship

For this short-term placement the intern will be responsible for assisting with the planning, coordination and delivery of the Youth Summer Programme.

  • Strong interest in Art & Design education

The intern will assist with:

  • Helping the mentors with their requirements
  • Taking attendance of the participants
  • Providing support to the outreach team with preparing the workshop places
  • Helping the outreach team with inventory requirements for the workshop materials
  • Guiding and advising the participants during workshops
