Exhibitions Department Internship 1

Period of Internship: 3 Months

About This Internship

The intern will gain practical design skills, contribute to real-world projects, and collaborate with curators, artists, and fabricators to create immersive environments and engaging visual narratives. Through technical training, creative workshops, and on-site experience, the intern will enhance their abilities in spatial planning, material selection, branding, wayfinding, and digital/print media production.

Specialist area: Interior Design and Graphic Design

The intern will:

  • Interns will be introduced to exhibition design, spatial storytelling, and visual branding. They will explore design principles, conduct research, and develop initial concepts through mood boards, sketches, and digital tools like AutoCAD, SketchUp, and Adobe Creative Suite. Workshops and collaborative exercises will help build a strong foundation in both interior and graphic design applications.
  • The iIntern focuses on design development and production. Interns will work on refining spatial layouts, wayfinding systems, and exhibition branding. They will gain hands-on experience in prototyping, model making, and preparing digital assets for fabrication. Regular reviews and feedback sessions will help shape their designs while incorporating sustainability and material considerations.
  • Interns will transition to execution and on-site experience. They will finalise design deliverables, assist with production coordination, and participate in the installation of an exhibition or project. This phase will emphasize real-world problem-solving, teamwork, and documentation. The programme will conclude with portfolio development, final presentations, and career guidance to support their next steps in the industry.

Exhibitions Department Internship 2

Period of Internship: 3 Months

About This Internship

The intern will gain hands-on experience in curatorial research, content development, collection management, and exhibition logistics while working with curators and researchers. They will assist with artwork research, drafting texts, coordinating loans, and documenting collections. The intern will develop skills in archival research, object handling, and curatorial writing. By the end of the internship, they will have a thorough understanding of how exhibitions are created, preparing them for roles in museums and cultural institutions.

Specialist area: Translation

Qualification required: University / College Student

Skills required:

  • Linguistic proficiency (fluency in Arabic & English, grammar, syntax)
  • Translation accuracy (maintaining tone, cultural nuances, and context)

  • Assist in cataloging artworks, updating records, and verifying inventory.
  • Research and fact-check exhibition content, artist bios, and curatorial essays.
  • Translate short texts, exhibition labels, and documentation for review.
  • Proofread and refine content for accuracy, clarity, and consistency.
  • Learn the best practices for artwork handling, translation accuracy, and editorial workflow.

Coordination, Editing & Refinement

  • Support loan documentation, transport coordination, and condition reporting.
  • Edit and proofread exhibition texts, brochures, and digital materials.
  • Translate longer texts while ensuring cultural and contextual accuracy.
  • Assist in reviewing contracts, shipping documents, and loan agreements.
  • Adapt translations for audience engagement and localization.
  • Conduct citation checks and refine content layout for readability.

Execution, Installation & Finalization

  • Assist in artwork installation, documentation, and post-installation condition reporting.
  • Conduct final checks on translated, edited, and proofread materials before publication.
  • Support the preparation of bilingual exhibition catalogs and guides.
  • Organize and archive research materials for future reference.
  • Help with live interpretation, subtitling, or publishing coordination.
  • Wrap up documentation, ensuring all registrar, editorial, and translation tasks are complete.

Period of Internship: 3 Months

About This Internship

The intern in the registrar position will be introduced to the logistics and coordination involved in exhibitions, including the installation and deinstallation of artworks. They will assist in maintaining and updating the artwork database, ensuring all records and documentation are accurate. The intern will also help catalogue new acquisitions and loans. Through hands-on experience, they will gain a solid understanding of exhibition planning, collection management, and database organisation, contributing to the smooth operation of QM Exhibitions.
