Equestrian Photography Competition Winner!
We are pleased to congratulate talented photographer Sharil Babu as the winner in our inaugural Equestrian Photography Competition!
Sharil Babu, took and developed an inspiring, award-winning photograph that successfully captured the essence of the pride of Qatar – the Arabian horse.
20 entries were shortlisted but Sharil impressed judges with his shot of the racehorse Ghizwan, a powerful Arabian horse and winner of the L/B P/A MAIDEN PLATE race that took place on 7th January.
As the winner, he'll have another opportunity to display his photography skills by capturing the action at the Qatar Prix de L’Arc de Triomphe in France.
Both the winning and shortlisted entries have been displayed at a special exhibition held at His Highness the Emir's 24th International Equestrian Sword Festival, in celebration of QREC’s 40th Anniversary.
About the Competition
Under the visionary guidance of our Chairperson, H.E. Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, we invited amateur and professional photographers to submit images that celebrate the role that horses have played in Arabian art, as well as their contribution to Qatar’s heritage and culture.
The judging panel included Mohammad Bin Salem Al Abdulla from the Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club, Abdulrahman Obeidan from the Qatar Photographic Society and Tamim Al Yafaei, from H.E. Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani’s office, who collectively judged more than one hundred entries received, taken at horse races hosted by Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club (QREC) during January 2015. The competition was open to photographers of all levels, from novice to professional, as part of QM’s commitment to nurturing emerging artistic talent.
